I was inspired to paint this scene through a photograph taken from the air in the 1930's of Le Havre's great passenger shipping terminal during the heyday of the Transatlantic ferry showing the SS Normandie being manouvered for docking and disembarkation of passengers. The SS Ille De France is being readied for departure while the SS Paris is in drydock. All of this was destroyed by Hitler's retreating armies weeks after D-Day. The port would face a long reconstruction period before a trans-atlantic service could be restored to Le Havre. Print size is 11x17 on #80 Strathmore glossy card stock, signed and numbered by hand by the artist to an edition of 500 pieces.
