This vessel survived more than 40 years of service under different owners and flags.
Built by Harland & Wolff Ltd. of Belfast and launched in 1903 for Wilson's Furness and Leyland Line the sisters Scotian and Servian sat idle and incomplete when their order was cancelled due to the lines financial shortfalls. It was more than two years later when HAPAG purchased the vessels and had them outfitted for Transatlantic service. They would become the President Grant and President Lincoln, serving their company well until WWI and internment in the USA. Siezed by Presidential order at the USA's declaration of war against Germany and her allies the USS President Grant and USS President Lincoln would take the American Doughboys to Europe. The Lincoln would be sunk although it would take three German torpedos in succession. The Grant would survive the war, then be laid up until 1923 when the USSB decided to give her a massive overhaul to an oil firing powerplant and enlarge her superstructure. What was chartered to the United States Lines in 1924 would now be known as the SS Republic until 1931. She was then handed over to the Maritime Commission who in turn rendered her for use as an Army Transport under the name of USAT Republic. She served the Military until her decomissioning in 1949. Scrapped in 1952. Edition is limited to 300 pieces.

To read a more complete history of this vessel and learn her forgotten story order the book "SS Republic". It is the first listing on this page.
