The photos on this page show a 1/950 scale card paper model of the SS America. The plans were drawn over a two year period of research and can be purchased on the Scaled Drawings Page. Construction is plank on frame with keel extending all the way up to weather decks. |

You can see all frames provided on the drawings in this photo. The length from stem to stern is just under 11.5 inches. |

Adding details above the weather decks. Building a model of this type is not for the novice and demands patience. |

View showing the hull form after planking, sanding and priming which was accomplished gluing 1/8 inch strips of card paper over the frames. |

Some of the detailing possibilities can now be seen. |

The finished model from the forward starboard quarter. Additions include crows nest, windows, portholes, white waterline marking, lifeboats and davits. This model has been entirely hand painted. |

The finished model from the aft starboard quarter. Additions include windows, props and shafts. I eventually changed out the Rudder to comply with the America's ruder. Drawings were changed to reflect this after finding some builders drawings. |
